Ciao Matteo....sure there is the 6th cycle. We start december 1st.....we wait some more sponsors but you find attached the program. Hope to see you...!
Hi guys...waiting to meet you all on January 12, 2nd conference, I inform you that our new member Fabio Vignoli , senior scientist of Philips Corporate Research in Eindhoven ( NL) is available to find, for interested students, internship for final thesis in Philips Labs in NL ( around six month period). Interested persons can contact directly Fabio in his page ( he needs your complete english resume)....is a great opportunity! Best wishes for next Holidays!
These are my first impressions about the first conference in Genoa, today Dec 1th 2008.
I came with an idea: a very technical speech, with a lot of "engineering" particulars..
The surprise: aninformal presentation, with a view of IVECO by marketing approach, its brand, its mission, and its concept of innovation.
The speech covered also technical arguments, ideas and new horizons in technologies, but if the presentation seemd to be an advertisement of the company, I've intended some key concepts just of the engineering world.
These concepts are innovation, research, market strategies, internationalization. The academic world prepare us to build new ideas and objects, but there's a lot of external elements for grant "success" to our ideas. We can't ignore them, and we need to know very well these elements, for our maximum success.
For example, I ignored all of the things and the choices needed after choosing a Brand. And today I understand its importance.
I think that this cycle of conference on genoa is very important because get the student near the world of work.
The Ing. Durelli had expose exemplary manner the necessity of the companies like IVECO; the conference was like a lesson, because had taught to us the reality where we will come to work; some subject we had discussed on course of "Sistemi Organizzativi", today we did a great interesting widening.
I totally agree guys...I know Enrico since he had your age, undergraduate of mechanichal engineering . It was in 1986 and I was leading Consorzio Genova Ricerche, a very innovative initiative that promoted spin off and innovation in Genova since 1986 to 1993..unfortunately that very new initiative for the town and Italy has been closed for...discussion among the industrial partners...( ahi Genova conflicts!) We started at that time a project about hybrid traction, starting from the know how existing in Genoa enginnering Faculty. We wanted to reach a prototype bus, and Enrico, together with Giorgio Mantovani ( a colleague) were involved to do a thesis. We worked leading a group with Ansaldo Ricerche , AMT and the actual Diptem: in 1989 a hybrid minibus trailed around Genova mid August, to do tests. IVECO discovered the news from an Il Secolo article , they contacted us...and joined the group, partially financing it...a little after a new company was born , named Altra, with Enrico and Giorgio the first 2 engineers...so started Enrico career...Altra made the first hybrid vehicles in the world, many years before Toyota...Enrico became the director, Giorgio the technical manager. ...2 years ago Iveco called Enrico in Torino, promoting him in the actual position...Giorgio is still in Altra, Lungobisagno d'Istria...a nice story..that can help you as a model one, starting from Genoa University...
Professor Marenco, seen that the problem of eletric vehicles are the batteries, because they must have a long duration and a long autonomy, is possible built a little eletric central in the vehicles? I explain better, if we install a little turbine that go whit a Brayton cycle to produce eletric power, we should have a better efficiency, so we pollute little, and the eletric power can be storage in the batteries when we are in the traffic; so the engine work whit a almost regular speed avoiding the transitory time, that are the point of maximun consumption and we can built battery with a short autonomy.
That my idea is true or wrong?
Simone here is the answer of Durelli: "I will be glad to enter in your network but today I am out of office, so I prefer to give you an answer immediately.
As usual the idea is not new and there is an interesting application of such a hybrid system in a bus called Horus, produced by EPT a small company based near Brescia and equipped with a Capstone gas turbine.
There are also other applications done in the past on cars.
Unfortunately there are some technical and economical problems for that application:
Turbine speed very high (100000 rpm) so noise
Transient conditions in some cases needed so low efficiency
